This post is a little different than most others. As many of you know, I’ve been doing a lot of boudoir photography lately- which means, women and men celebrating themselves through photographs that are tasteful, classy- and partly or mostly nude. I was extremely nervous the first time I did a shoot like this- and my clients are ALWAYS nervous in the beginning. (By the end, trust me, they’re the ones coming up with ideas and suggestions because they’re having so much fun!)

After having done almost a hundred boudoir shoots now, one of the only downsides is this- I have some amazing photographs in my collection now that I can’t share because of the sensitive nature of the photos! Some of the finest, most beautiful work I’ve ever done is with these women (and a few men, but mostly women) who are brave enough to do something like this for themselves, honoring themselves and celebrating exactly who they are in this moment in life. There’s nothing I love more than coming home and looking through the images, and saying, “Wow. She is truly incredible- can’t wait for her to see herself like I did during our session.” It’s so rewarding.

Out of respect for my clients and their privacy, I’ve chosen not to share many of the photos I’ve done. (Also there are few brave enough to share their boudoir pics with all of Halifax- it’s a small community!) However I still felt I should write something about the experiences I’m having, and how impressed and amazed I am with these women and their beauty. You’ll never be more beautiful than you are right now, in this moment. Thank you all for sharing that with me and allowing me to capture you for exactly who you are.

St. Patrick’s Day wedding!

I was particularly looking forward to Jackie & Gary’s special day, as they were recommended to me by a mutual friend. I was delighted to go out to Porters Lake to visit my dear friend Jen, who is expecting her second little bundle sometime this July. We had a wonderful afternoon exploring the beach next to her house and I think you’ll agree that she looks absolutely stunning- pregnancy looks good on her!

Have been feeling the urge to do some new landscapes lately- and this morning was a great opportunity to catch the waves coming up this beautiful beach.

Sometimes I meet new clients and there is an instant connection. I find that whatever energy I’m sending out seems to come back to me in the form of meeting new and incredible people. Jen is a perfect example of this- as soon as we met we realized we had much to talk about!! She’s a beautiful and talented actress and yoga instructor, heading off to greener pastures in Montreal. I wish her the best in her career and adventures!

How fun is it to have clients who are also friends? Yay! AND they are fun- they wanted to do their shoot at Giant Robot Comics in Dartmouth! Owner Darrell was kind enough to let us take over the store. You really have to check this place out- it’s on Woodlawn Road in Dartmouth- I found all kinds of things to feed my various Star Wars and Firefly obsessions. Can’t wait for Cyn & Dave’s wedding!

My friend and client Celine Gabrielle (of Wolfville’s Happy Day Spa- check out her link here) invited me to her lovely home to take some ‘candid’ fun shots of her kids. Well, they certainly knew how to pose and they looked gorgeous doing it! We jumped on the couch, sang songs and had all kinds of fun. My favorite kind of children- the cute, well behaved kind!

Schofields in the Snow

I’ve known this family for as long as I can remember. The Schofields grew up a few streets over from me and our parents were buddies in college, so they’re kind of extended family. I was thrilled when they invited me out to Port Williams to play in the snow for a few hours, to celebrate Doug & Kathy’s 40th Wedding Anniversary. The kids are all grown up now and there’s even some new grandchildren around… so lots to celebrate and lots of fun!

I had the pleasure of photographing J & A’s lovely wedding ceremony just before it really turned into winter. However, it was still very chilly and windy, and our brave bride was a great sport about having her photos taken outdoors! (I think the groom was keeping her warm.) I love the way he kept making her laugh- he did this all day, during the ceremony, the photos, and I suspect, for the rest of her life… (AWWW!)

I knew Mike & Kaylee were going to be a treat as soon as we met last year. I had been looking forward to their wedding in Great Village for months! Turns out I was right (as usual- *wink*) and they were even lovelier than I could’ve wished for! Completely smitten with each other, relaxed and lots of smiles. I really enjoyed getting to know these two and the location of their wedding was a beauty as well, at Mike’s family floral nursery. They even did an amazing choreographed dance together to wow the crowd!

This summer I had one of the most fun days I’ve ever had at a wedding shoot. Erin & Rene were super fun to spend the day with- they were up for anything! We had a blast returning to their old high school (Horton) to muck around in the classrooms and play. I loved the creativity and joy coming from these two!

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of spending the day at the amazing Fiddleheads Kids Shop in Dartmouth. I set up my holiday themed backdrop in their lobby, and we had a steady stream of cute kids and wonderful parents coming in all day to have their photos taken. Jess & Kyle’s wedding day was a beautiful summer afternoon, with the ceremony and photos happening in the amazing backyard of a family friend. They were so sweet together, and we had a lot of fun exploring the huge, sprawling property together! However in the end, you can’t pass up the chance to do photos in front of a truck!

Meeting up with them at Kingsport Beach proved to be just as wonderful- they have two big dogs, so we bonded over that quickly as well. Can’t wait for next summer!

My first Jewish wedding was an incredible experience. It was probably the most joyful wedding I’ve ever photographed. Erica is a total goddess, everything about her was classy elegance and I really enjoyed getting to know she and her new hubby Elisha.

On the dykes before the ceremony. The boys. This is my favorite moment from the entire day. After the ceremony, the bride and groom go into seclusion for a few minutes. When they return, they are welcomed by a joyful, noisy, party-filled crowd- ready to dance and celebrate with them. This is the groom and his father, who grabbed each other and danced their happy hearts out. First time up in the horah- wow!Sneaking away for a sunset moment.
